Check Out Some of the Weirdest Oddities Seen in Pawn Shops Over the Years
One might think that the clerks working in pawn shops might get bored seeing the same old same old all the time – watches, rings, firearms, and instruments. *YAWN*.
Honestly, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Pawn shops attract some of the most interesting and diverse clientele of any business here in the USA. That diversity brings in a huge array of merchandise. Some we take and some we are occasionally completely stumped on ourselves (though it doesn’t happen very often!).
We wanted to give you a look inside the life of a Southwest Florida Pawnshop and just a few of the oddities that we have encountered over the years!
#1 Gold filings. Yes, from teeth. Who’s teeth? Usually a relative who has passed or from the seller themselves having had it pulled or replaced recently with zirconia or porcelain as it is more attractive, less noticeable and more biocompatible. (at least we hope!) That leaves a hunk of gold which can be worth some money. We really prefer the gold only though. Please keep the teeth at home.
#2 Animals – Surprisingly people have tried to sell or trade horses as well as livestock. While we have a large storage area, it isn’t equipped for farm animals. Thats a trade we have to turn down.
#3 Urns. Many urns are made of precious metals and are quite costly. Please remember to take your loved one out of it before pawning or selling.
#4 Glass Eyes. While these may be costly we cannot accept glass eyes. They are custom made specifically for you and we feel you should keep them.
#5 Dinosaur eggs – Dinosaur eggs are amazingly not worth a whole lot because there are tons of them around. Supply and demand. It seems like a super cool item that could be worth a fortune, but until they become rare, it isn’t actually the case.
